Tooth whitening or bleaching is a safe and effective treatment to remove tooth discolouration if it is customised to your needs and delivered by a trained dental professional. Misuse or unmanaged treatment can result in irreversible damage to you and your teeth. At Ian Gurner Dental Care, we offer take-home custom-fit trays and in-chair whitening procedures.

Tooth whitening with us begins with a visit to one of our highly trained Oral Health Therapists for an assessment about which treatment is best for you and professional cleaning of your teeth. This cleaning is essential as it removes the surface layer of plaque and staining that can impair the success of the whitening process.

OPTION 1. TAKE HOME CUSTOM FIT TRAYS

Number of Appointments: 2

Method: Boutique Whitening

Appointment 1: 15mins

Our hygienist will take an impression of your teeth to create custom-fitted trays. These trays ensure that:

  • The whitening gel stays in contact with the teeth for maximum whitening.
  • We prevented saliva from contacting the whitening gel, which can dilute its strength.
  • We minimised the whitening gel contact with the gums to avoid possible gum irritation.
Appointment 2: 20 mins

At this appointment, we check the fit of the custom made trays to ensure they are comfortable for you.

We will give you precise instructions about how to load the trays, how long you should leave the whitening gel-filled trays on your teeth and how often you should repeat the procedure so that it is not misused.

You will also receive some products to help prevent tooth sensitivity which is not uncommon with whitening treatments.

The take-home whitening usually takes 7-14 days to see the effects.

Option 2.  In-Chair Whitening

We thoroughly clean the teeth to remove all saliva remnants and isolate your teeth to prevent any contact with mouth tissues and saliva. A strong whitening gel is applied to the tooth surfaces and activated with a LED light. You will see immediate results after the treatment.
