What is a dental implant?

A dental implant is a metal fixture similar to a screw placed into the jawbone. It creates a base to attach either a single false tooth or a set of false teeth.

Commercially and medically pure titanium is used to create them. This material is not known to cause any rejection.

What are the advantages of implants?

Dental implants provide several benefits:

  • They are a long-term solution to tooth loss
  • Help retain your natural face shape and smile
  • Improve your appearance
  • Can improve functionality by replacing missing teeth

Can anyone have dental implants?

To be considered an ideal candidate for a dental implant, you must:

  • Be in good physical health
  • Have optimal oral health, free of gum disease
  • Have enough bone in the area of their missing teeth for the implant to be attached too

However, certain factors, such as diabetes, smoking, bleeding disorders and certain medications, may influence the procedure and outcome of the treatment. Our dentists can advise you if dental implants are a good option.

The Professional Partnership

Dental implant treatment is a complex and multi-stage treatment designed to provide a long-term, functional and aesthetic replacement for a lost tooth or teeth.

Our two decades of experience have led us to the firm opinion that a partnered service between a specialised implant surgeon and a restorative dentist will give you optimal results.

As our primary interest is in providing our clients with the best possible outcome, we only use surgeons with specific training and expertise in bone and soft tissue management regarding dental implant placement. We can then focus our skills, training and experience on creating beautiful, aesthetic and functional artificial teeth on those expertly placed implants.

Whether crowns, bridges, full-arch reconstructions or removable dentures attached to implants, we believe this team approach is most desirable as it provides the best surgical and dental results for our clients.

The Treatment Process With Us

Dental implant treatment involves significant planning and usually a minimum of three appointments with us. You will also need to visit an implant surgeon.

A typical schedule would be:

Appointment 1: Pre-Treatment Records

At this short appointment, initial impressions, photographs, colour selections and other required tests are to set up the process of completing the dental implant.

Following this appointment, we will arrange for you to see the implant surgeon, who will assess your case. The surgeon would discuss your case with us and then arrange an appointment for your implant surgery. The implant surgeon will manage the surgical part of your implant treatment and then refer you back to us to construct your implant’s crown/bridge portion.

Appointment 2: Preparation and Final Records

Usually, this is a longer appointment. The implant gets checked, and impressions are taken for the laboratory to construct a crown/bridge. Usually, no temporary will be required, or you will already have a temporary denture. All information is now collected and dispatched to the dental laboratory, which will be responsible for constructing your crown/bridge on the appropriate implant components. It will take approximately three weeks to produce the final crown/bridge complex.

Appointment 3: Insertion and Completion

Usually, a short appointment where we place the final crown/bridge complex to review colour, accuracy and comfort. We will cement the crown/bridge in place if all is satisfactory.
